Serial Digital RS422/485 Data
Fibre-Optic-Link
|
|
This is a transmission system which
produces great benefits for users who require a solution to
electrical interference and noise problems in data transmission. The
link is full duplex, and is fully user-configurable between high
speed RS422 and RS485 interface options. It complements our point2point
analogue fibreoptic-link modules in many applications as well as
being a useful product in its own right.
|
|
OPERATION
The Serial Digital RS422/485 Link Transceiver converts
electrical data into an optical signal for transmission over
the optical fibre. At a receiving end, an identical
Transceiver converts the optical signal back into an
electrical signal. Each Transceiver comprises complementary
Transmit and Receive circuits to permit two way simultaneous
data flow.
In
addition, multiple Transceivers can be configured to operate
as a multi-drop RS485 network.

|
APPLICATIONS
- EMC Test Chambers.
- Electrically Noisy Environments.
- Communication with equipment in High voltage
environment.
- Long Distance Multi-Point Control.
- Process Control.
- Computer Linking.
- Remote Control.
|
BENEFITS
The use of optical fibre has a number of inherent
advantages over conventional copper based
alternatives:
- Immunity to electrical interference, so the signal is
not corrupted by radiated interference.
- It is non-conductive, thus providing an intrinsically
safe transmission path for the monitoring of equipment at
hazardous voltages.
- It uses highly flexible and small diameter
cable.
| |
|
HIGH PERFORMANCE
Our Serial Digital Data Fibre-Optic-Link range offers particular
advantages:
- Electrically screened Shielded Remote Module option for
operation in high levels of electrical interference.
- High
Speed RS422 and RS485 operability.
- Full
Duplex Link (point-to-point) · Long distance option for >1km.
- Status LEDs for Power, Data.
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
The
RS422/485 Serial Digital Data Fibre-Optic-Links belong to our modular point2point product range, where the Transceiver units can
be delivered in Remote, Shielded Remote or Plug-In Module options.
Please refer to the System Electrical Performance Datasheet
for more details.

This is
an 8 channel digital system which produces great benefits for users
who require a solution to electrical interference and noise problems
in data acquisition, control, and signal transmission.
This
unique product permits the transmission of 8 lines of digital data
asynchronously over a single fibre.
The
inputs can be used as a conventional 8-bit bus or individually as 8
digital input channels with a range of input levels. The product is
available with an open-drain current switching output for control
applications.
